Artist Nick Dragotta Teams Up with Jason Aaron in ONCE UPON A TIME AT THE END OF THE WORLD
Star ‘East of West’ & ‘Ghost Cage’ Comics Creator Joins the Epic New Original Series Starting in 2024
BOOM! Studios announced that the highly acclaimed comic book artist Nick Dragotta (Ghost Cage, East of West) will be the series artist for the third and final five-issue arc of ONCE UPON A TIME AT THE END OF THE WORLD, an epic post-apocalyptic series from Eisner and Harvey Award winner and New York Times bestselling writer Jason Aaron (Thor, The Avengers, Southern Bastard), about a love story at the end of the world that’s brutal and nostalgic, whimsical and grounded… and ultimately, timeless. BOOK THREE of this epic series, entitled NOT EVEN IF YOU WERE THE LAST PERSON ON EARTH, will be available in stores in 2024.
Maceo and Mezzy have never met anyone like each other, and they’ll need all the help they can get to survive a planet ravaged by environmental catastrophe. This epic 15-issue trilogy spans a lifetime as the dark mysteries of a ruined world and their own stark differences tear at the threads holding Maceo and Mezzy together… Will they, and the earth beneath their feet, ultimately be torn apart?
Nick Dragotta is a writer and artist. Dragotta co-created the Eisner Award-nominated series East of West with Jonathan Hickman at Image Comics after working together on highly acclaimed runs of The Fantastic Four and FF series at Marvel Entertainment. Dragotta also worked on various iconic Marvel and DC characters such as Captain America, Spider-Man, the X-Men, X-Statix, Batman, and Superman. His latest book is Ghost Cage, which he co-wrote and illustrated, at Image Comics.
“I’ve wanted to draw a Jason Aaron comic for some time. I got even more excited when I learned it was a ‘love story,’ and I would be drawing the final act of ONCE UPON A TIME AT THE END OF THE WORLD,” said Dragotta. “Couple that with getting to craft a comic alongside fellow artists Alexandre Tefenkgi, Leila del Duca, and editor Sierra Hahn. Sign me up.”
ONCE UPON A TIME AT THE END OF THE WORLD #1 features main cover art by highly acclaimed illustrator Mike Del Mundo (Thor), and variant cover art by Alexandre Tefenkgi with colors by Lee Loughridge, Junggeun Yoon (Something is Killing the Children), Jenny Frison (Wonder Woman), and more.
“How did Maceo and Mezzy go from lovestruck kids to hard-edged wastewalkers, who’ve become just as brutal as the apocalyptic landscape where they fight to survive, each on their own? And what brings them back together with nothing less than the fate of the entire planet at stake? Nick was the absolute perfect choice for this action-driven, emotion-packed finale of the world’s last great love story,” said Aaron.
